How the process works

Citizens of Kyrgyzstan need a visa to travel to Australia.

Australia issues several types of visa depending on the purpose of the trip:

• tourist and short-term trips

• study

• long-term stays

The visa process is fully digital: documents are submitted online through the official portal of the Australian immigration service, after which the applicant must complete biometrics and, if required, a medical examination.

Applications are reviewed individually, taking into account the purpose of the trip, the applicant’s financial situation and visa history.

Types of visa

1. Tourist visa (Subclass 600)

Suitable for:

• tourism

• visiting relatives and friends

• short business trips

• short courses and language programmes

Key features:

• the stay is usually from 3 to 12 months

• study is permitted for no more than 3 months

• not intended for long-term residence or study

2. Student visa (Subclass 500)

Suitable for:

• study at schools, colleges and universities

• long-term language courses

• study programmes lasting more than 6 months

Key features:

• allows you to stay in Australia for the duration of your studies

• grants the right to limited work during your studies

• requires confirmation of enrolment at an institution

• you must prove financial means

How to apply for a visa

1. Online application

• creating an account on the official Australian immigration portal

• completing the application form

• uploading documents in electronic form

• paying the visa fee

2. Biometrics

• providing fingerprints and a photograph

• carried out at an accredited visa centre

• an appointment is required in advance

3. Medical examination (for the 500 visa)

• carried out at an accredited clinic

• scheduled after the application is submitted

• mandatory for most students

• gaps in study or work (educational gap)

For the student visa the GTE (Genuine Temporary Entrant) principle applies: the applicant must prove the temporary nature of their stay and a genuine intention to return.
