Student and Tourist Visas for China (2024–2026)

How the application works

Citizens of Kyrgyzstan need a visa to travel to China, apart from certain visa-free cases (group trips, transit or special entry regimes, for example).

The visa is arranged in advance through Chinese consulates or accredited visa centres. A tourist or a student visa is issued, depending on the purpose of the trip.

Types of visa

1. Tourist visa (L visa)

Suitable for:

• tourism

• visiting friends and relatives

• independent travel

Key features:

• single- or double-entry

• usually valid for up to 90 days

• maximum stay per trip — up to 30 days

• multiple-entry tourist visas are rarely issued

2. Student visa (X visa)

Suitable for:

• studying at universities and other institutions

• long-term study programmes

Key features:

• an official invitation from the institution is required

• split into short-term (X2) and long-term (X1)

• X1 usually means you must then arrange a residence permit in China

• proof of enrolment is required

How to apply

1. Submitting documents

• through Chinese visa centres

2. Completing the application form

• the form is completed online

• for a visa centre — on its website

• for a consulate — on the official portal (in English or Chinese)

3. Lodging the documents

• submitted in person or through a representative

• there may be queues

• a complete set of documents must be provided

• photographs to the required standard

• proof of the purpose of the trip (invitation or enrolment)

• proof of accommodation

• financial documents

• tickets (sometimes)

Processing times

• standard processing: about 4–5 business days

• expedited processing: roughly 2–3 business days

• express option: collection may be possible the next day
