
How the application works
To travel to Austria, citizens of Kyrgyzstan need to obtain a visa depending on the purpose and length of their stay.
Intended for:
tourism
business trips
visiting relatives
short-term study
Length of stay:
up to 90 days within any 180-day period
Important: a Schengen visa does not grant the right to work
Issued if:
the study programme lasts more than 90 days
the programme takes place at an accredited educational institution
This visa allows you to:
stay in Austria for more than 3 months
study on long-term programmes (university, school, language courses)
Austria must be:
your main country of stay
or
the country where you will spend the greatest number of days
If you plan to spend an equal number of days in several Schengen countries — the application is submitted to the consulate of the country of first entry
Visa C (tourist):
submitted through Austria's visa application centres
Visa D (student):
submitted directly to the consulate/embassy of Austria accredited for Kyrgyzstan

Visa application centres do not accept applications for the national D visa
For visa C: the appointment is booked through the visa application centre
For visa D: the appointment is booked through the embassy (usually online or by e-mail)
Booking an appointment in advance is mandatory
Visa C: biometric data must be provided (if not submitted previously)
Visa D: in-person submission is mandatory, an interview is possible
To obtain the visa you need:
Confirmation of enrolment at an educational institution
Financial means for living and study costs
Medical insurance
Proof of accommodation
No criminal record (in some cases)
A complete set of documents with translations
Visa C: around 15 calendar days
Visa D: from several weeks to 2–3 months
Processing times may increase if additional checks are required
According to the Austrian Federal Ministry of European and International Affairs:
Visa C:
80 euros (standard)
40 euros (for children aged 6–12)
free of charge (under 6)
Visa D:
the consular fee is usually higher and is set by the consulate on an individual basis
paid at the time of submission
A service fee of the visa application centre may also be charged
For visa D:
all documents must be translated into German or English
translation into German is more often required
the translation must be certified (usually by a notary)
For visa C:
translation is usually not mandatory, but may be recommended
originals and copies are provided
documents must be legible and complete
if a document is missing, an explanation is required
The consulate may request additional documents
providing false information may lead to a refusal
the set of documents must be submitted in full
it is best to factor in the submission deadlines in advance so as to be ready for the start of your studies
